Measuring for Plus-Size Pants

Sometimes, it’s amazing what kind of deals for plus-sized pants you will find online, but if you don’t know your size, it could be very tricky finding a great pair that fits properly. Many online companies have a great shipping and return policy, so if you do have a pair of pants that don’t fit you can easily return them for a different size. While it is easy to shop online, knowing how to take your own measurements will reduce the chance you find the wrong size. Usually, clothing websites come with a size chart for you to look through and find the closest size – but in order to use it you need to know your measurements. Here is how you can effectively take your measurements to find that perfect pair of pants:

Take your shoes off when measuring to get the most accurate measurements. While you could do the measurement s on your own, asking for help from a friend or family member will make it quick and efficient. If you don’t feel comfortable asking someone to help by all means go ahead and do it alone! Grab a piece of paper and a pencil to write the measurements down as soon as you have them – it is easier to keep track that way, rather than risk forgetting them midway through the process.

Wrap a measuring tape around the waist, where the waistband of your pants normally sits. Leave about a finger’s space between the body and measuring tape to keep pants fitted, but not too tight when you purchase them. Then, wrap the tape around the fullest part of your hips and write the numbers down. If the pants you like have rise measurements, you can take those down as well. Place the end of the measuring tape at the center of your waist on your backside and then pass the tape under the legs until the tape is now at the center of your waist on the front. The measurement on the front is the rise.

Finally, find a pair of pants in the closet that have an ideal length and measure the inside seam – also known as the inseam.
