Choosing a Plus Size Holiday Dress

The holidays are here and it’s time to go out to all of the fabulous parties and events for friends, family and work! No matter what size you are, finding a dress of any kind can be tricky, stressful and downright frustrating. What fits around the bust might be too loose around the waist, or what fits around the waist is too tight around the shoulders. As a curvy women, finding a dress can be even more troublesome – but there are plenty of ways to reduce the stress and start off on the right foot when it comes to finding that perfect holiday look.

The first thing to consider is the style of dress you want. Have fabulous legs, but want to add extra coverage to your upper half? A knee-length or mid-length dress can really complement great legs and provide coverage where you need it most. There are so many styles of dresses – think about trying a few on to get an idea of what works and what does not. Step outside the box, too! You never know that something will look amazing on you unless you try it on.

One thing to remember is to offer contrast to any look. If you have a short dress, go more conservative on top. If you want to accentuate the bust with a deep neckline, keep the hem of the dress a little longer – less is more, ladies! The type of fabric you choose can provide additional support. Something more structured, such as beads or sequins can help smooth the figure, while chiffon or velvet fabrics are less forgiving.

If you want to smooth your figure and tighten things up, body shaper underneath the gown will help keep everything in its place. Purchase the gown first and then determine what style of body shaper you need to help everything look fantastic!

Try on a variety of sizes. There is no such thing as a woman fitting into the same size clothing – whether you are a petite woman or plus size, try on different sizes! You might find that a size up or down looks amazing and offers you confidence and comfort. Don’t let the number on the dress wear you – no one cares what a little number says on the tag and it shouldn’t matter! Wear the dress with confidence and your beauty will shine right through!
